Frank August Case Study: 04 is a special edition whiskey that artfully blends Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Rye Whiskey. This unique expression is “4X Oaked”, meaning it has undergone multiple aging cycles in oak barrels, deepening its complexity and richness.

This release exemplifies Frank August’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of American whiskey, serving as a creative platform for experimentation and innovation. Case Study: 04 represents this pursuit at its highest level, blending double-oaked Kentucky Straight Bourbon and double-oaked Kentucky Straight Rye in each meticulously crafted four-barrel batch. Specifically, each batch consists of two double-oaked KSBW barrels and two double-oaked KSRW barrels, inspiring the “4X Oaked” designation.

What sets this release apart is the introduction of the “Proofed in Barrel” process. Instead of proofing in tanks before bottling, Frank August adjusted the proof at the time of the second barrel fill, ensuring each barrel reached 95 proof by the time it matured. The whiskey was then aged in its secondary barrel for an additional 12–14 months before being dumped and batched.
