Since 1917, Merced Rye has been cultivated on the historic Souza Family Farm. This heritage variety thrives in California’s climate—growing quickly in cool weather and naturally resisting drought. The farm’s sandy soils often leach vital nutrients like nitrogen and potash, but Merced Rye’s deep root system, reaching up to 13 feet, naturally draws these nutrients back to the surface to nourish future crops.
