This is the sixth release in Frank August’s “Case Study” series.
The batch consists of six barrels: two barrels each from three of Kentucky’s “most storied legacy distilleries.”
The ages of the component bourbons: 8-year, 9-year, and 10-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskeys.
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 54.62%, which corresponds to 109.24 proof.
Appearance:
-
Rich amber color with copper undertones. The legs in the glass suggest structure and maturity.
Nose (Aroma):
-
Opens with vanilla bean, honeycomb, caramelized pear.
-
Underneath: seasoned oak, baking spices, candied fruit, brown sugar.
Palate (Taste):
-
Waves of butterscotch, dark toffee, baking spice.
-
Balanced by roasted pecan and a hint of orange zest.
-
Complex yet composed—“an energy that stirs beneath the surface.”
Finish:
-
Long and deliberate: toasted sugar, charred oak, dried cherry linger. Soft silky mouthfeel.
-
A final emergent note: balanced, elevated, quietly powerful.
