About this bottle
The Botanist Islay Cask Aged Gin is a specialized, limited-edition expression from Scotland's Bruichladdich Distillery. It takes the brand's classic Islay Dry Gin—distilled with 22 hand-foraged wild Islay botanicals—and matures it for a minimum of three years in a complex blend of wood.
Bruichladdich crafts this expression as a deliberate "cuvée" of wood. It is aged in warehouse storage for at least 3 years using a combination of more than 8 different cask types. The blend draws from both American and European oak, including casks that previously held Sauternes sweet wine, rum, and fine whiskies.
- Nose: Heavy oak wood and warming spices transition into juniper, citrus peel, and complex floral herbs.
- Palate: Creamy, viscous, and viscous texture. It leads with sweet vanilla ice cream, toasted oats, and dried fruits. This quickly balances out with earthy undertones and sharp baking spices.
- Finish: Long, warming, and slightly sweet with a subtle maritime island character.
